Well time flies, it certainly hard to believe that it is twelve months ago when we packed the A30 and headed for Euroa. After
meeting up with the members from the A30 and A40 Clubs, we proceeded on to our first stop for the day, which was a Wayside Stop north
side of Seymour on the Hume Highway. Here we had morning tea and met up with Ted & Mary Jones and then continued onto Euroa. During
our drive we noticed just how dry the countryside was, and made us feel very guilty to think that us City Slickers can water our gardens
every second day and have showers just as long as water comes out the taps. We arrived at the Castle Creek Motel in Euroa, and were
greeted by the owner John “Hope you did not bring any onions”. Last year it took Sandy & John 3 weeks to get rid of the
smell. We told them that we had frozen onions this time. John breathed a sigh of relief. Next stop was to the Bakery for
lunch, the weather was so nice we sat outside, which was lucky as we were laughing so much the other customers might have complained. During
our lunch Don Jones who not long ago had an operation was drooling over a Vanilla Slice, he said that all he had to eat was a lousy
salad roll, it was not fair he may as well go and sit in the middle of the road. Then some comedian by the name of Warren spoke up
“Would not do you any good you could sit out there for a week and still not see a car.” Sue – Don’s wife took pity on him and
gave him a small portion of her Vanilla Slice. After our lunch we went back to the Motel and then in convey headed off on a tour of Euroa
and the Seven Creeks Run. On the way we had a self-tour of Keefer’s Northern Hotel, it was a beautiful old hotel which
they are trying to restore. The owner has a bus load of tourist come up from Melbourne every Grand Final Weekend, so as the
bar was opened some members sampled the beer. We then did a quick tour around the main streets of Euroa then onto the
Seven Creek Run, some of us did extra mileage, but we did see some nice scenery.
The tour of Seven Creek Run was very interesting, the new owners are restoring it to the original setting. It can be
seen from the Hume Highway. Arriving back at the Motel we all settled down for the night having a beaut BBQ with all theother members from the other Motel, the Chrysler Restorers Club members where also present. The evening was a great success, during
the night we helped Mario Napoleone celebrate his 50th and Bob Talbot not only ran the Special Effort he was the life of the party.
After dining well we settled down to have a game of Bocce, an Italian game of bowls. The Chrysler Restorers Club Team won with the
A40 Team coming second. But we are very dought full about Tony’s wife she said she had never played before, yet she blasted everyone
and everything off the green. Next year I think we will have to give her a handicap. What a great night we had plenty of laughter
and the friendship it was great.
The following day we arrived at Seven Creek for the Show “N” Shine, and what a day it turned
out to be, the sun was shinning and there were well over 800 cars, plus motor bikes, tractors and even speed boats. This year they
had a Market and that was a great draw card for the Ladies. We only had one complaint and that was the loud rock music, almost
impossible for most of the day to hear people talking.
One of the attractions was the Rocker Cover Race; this was owned and operated
by the A40 Club with a little help from members of the A30 club. Each year it attracts more contestant’s young and old. We believe that the track had been waxed and polished the night before.
The two Clubs were very lucky with the judging of the best
vehicles. Bill and Beryl Rees - A40 club took out first place for the best Austin, Warren & Pam Barry - A30 club took
out second place, and Mary Jones A30/A40 clubs won the Trophy for second place for the best Ute with their A35 Pickup.
Congratulations
to them all, well done.
The day was over and some headed back and others like us stayed until the following day before heading
for the Big Smoke. On our way home, I know it is hard to believe, we along with Bruce & Glenys in our A30’s were passed
by a Morris Cowley (Bronwyn & David Taylor) it just left us in its wake. “Unbelievable”.
All I can say it was a fantastic
weekend, congratulation to the Rotary Club of Euroa for once again putting on an excellent and most enjoyable day. Also many thanks
to Mary & Ted Jones, for making all the Motel Bookings plus the time and effort they put in to make the weekend a successful and
friendly weekend.
Euroa and District is proven to be a great place to visit.
